HCC are returning with Newtown Twinning Association.
Hafren Cycling Club trio prepare for the prestigious French time-trialing event the Chrono des Nations which will take place on 20th October 2019.
Emma Serjeant, Sam Holwill and Louise Hurdley, all members of Hafren Cycling Club are currently training for the UCI Chrono des Nations, an elite race against the clock in the town of Les Herbiers twinned with Newtown where they will go head to head with some of the world’s leading time triallists. Previous winners of the event have included Chris Boardman, David Millar and Tony Martin.
This will be Emma’s third trip to Les Herbiers for the event. Emma is currently the Welsh Masters Time Trial Champion and is hoping to set a personal best at the event and looking forward to being reunited with her French friends made through the Newtown Twinning committee and hosts from previous years.
Sam and Louise will visit Les Herbiers for the first time in October. Sam is currently the Welsh Youth Hill Climb Champion and regularly travels the length and breadth of the country competing in UK National Road Races. Sam will progress on to the Junior ranks next year and hopes to gain a place on a race team and compete regularly in Europe on the road.
Louise, who is relatively new to time trialing, is excited to be racing on the international stage and the trio are thoroughly looking forward to the amazing opportunity.
Welcome for HCC members and NTA members: Friday 18th October 2019
All HCC and NTA members were welcomed on arrival at 12.30 in Les Herbiers by their hosts and representatives of Comite de Jumelage Pays des Herbiers. A Welcome Reception event was held at the Comite de Jumelage Pays des Herbiers office at 18.00h with drinks and food provided for all involved in the weekend Chrono event.
A very big thank you to all our friends in the Comite de Jumelage Pays des Herbiers for organising this and the hosting of all families from Newtown.
The Walter Beneteau Randonnee du Chrono 2019: Saturday morning 19th October.
Members of HCC took part in the Walter Beneteau Randonnee for the 4th year running! A great result for Le Gallois as they received a large trophy for the riders who had travelled the furthest to take part, all the way from Newtown Wales!!
The 38th Chrono Race: Sunday 20th October 2019
An exciting weekend in France for the 38th Chrono event in spite of the rain, watching Emma Serjeant, Louise Hurdley and Sam Holwill represent Hafren CC at the Chrono Des Nations! An amazing opportunity to race against some of the best in Europe. A great effort by all riders and their family support teams! An excellent result from Sam achieving 17th place out of a field of 45 top junior riders.
NTA and Comite de Jumelage Pays des Herbiers were pleased to help with arrangements and hosting for the cyclists and families of HCC. Long may it continue!
The Chrono Dinner: Sunday 20th October 2019
All HCC members, participants and competitors attended the Chrono dinner where Gethin and friend met with the Champion of the Tour of Spain race.
